Between the two options, I will be most compelled to learn a language that interests me and not because I'm travelling to that country.

Why travelling can't influence me is because I already accept that I'm not a local and just a visitor. I am aware the locals will also treat me as such and be a little lenient in communicating with me. I also will be prepared to use non verbal languages and be very alert about every and any sign.

If I was to choose being an animal, I will like to be an Eagle.

For me, I would love to expand my friend circle lol, just kidding. Everything about learning a new language is attracting to me, but my top ones are being able to communicate with others, understand music, especially operas and to work out my brain.

It is a fun thing to make the local smile whenever you speak their language, every time you travel abroad. It is also one of the best ways to express how thankful you are to see what they have.

A few of my students are learning English primarily to communicate better with their English-speaking boyfriends - another pretty compelling reason!

Pure interest. I think learning different languages is a great idea. Not only does it gives you additional employment advantages but also helps you to communicate effectively with other people specifically the ones whose first language is the one that you're learning.

I agree with Sarah Schaffer. I will totally learn a new language to communicate effectively with a loved one.

I'd say I had developed an interest when I got to meet a few people from that country.

Everyday is a learning journey. Keep going!
