Try chinese - other as the language you import as or Chinese - Cantonese, I think there's rules about which languages on youtube that map to the language on language crush. I can't remember which one is used for zh-TW without looking but I'm pretty sure it isn't the Mandarin one.

Yours is an unusual case, most language learners aren't using this site to target native languages, I suggest you make your native languages learning non native and put a bogus native language. The site will remember what you set for translation languages, etc.

No, basic lookups are the mouse hover over popups on desktop and the small window on phones.

Hi Adam,

Neither the website or the app supports offline audio at the moment, we're currently working on a new app and we'll be including this request as part of it. As a work around for now you can download the audio and transfer to your phone and play them which isn't very convenient I know...

Hello, welcome!

The vocabulary list is generated from passages you've read. Perhaps you've got a language selected other than French on the vocabulary tab?

Yes the stat is total words read without any uniqueness check.

Hi Dante3,

It's not a word count of all the words in the passage it's a count of all the 'unique' words in the passage.

So for example in your passage where it says 'No, no, no' that's 1 word and not 3 in the 'Total words' count.

If you go into your stats (click anywhere you see your level or 'stats' under your avatar when logged in) there's a 'total words read' stat which comes from completed passages and bookmarks.

If you select a course in the vocab export you'll be presented with a list of passages that are in the course regardless of whether you've opened them or not.

If a passage isn't part of that course (like ones you've added yourself and you aren't the owner of the course to be able to add it to them) your passage will not show up with a course filter in place.

Removing the course selection and typing in 'Yehova Husamehe' for example in the passage entry should allow you to export that passages vocab.

Both of those filters are optional so if you want to just output everything you've seen in Swahili you can just leave them blank.

It might help if you could explain what you're using this for maybe there's a better way to do it?

This doesn't sound related, the passages would have been part of a course before you copied them, they'll no longer be part of that course after copying them because the course doesn't belong to you. If you want to carry on copying them I suggest you make your own Storybooks Canada course and place all the copied ones within that.

Okay. Think I understand. They should be created by you and designated by you at a certain level. 'm reading those that were designated as Beginner, but weren't input/created by me. Is there a way to return to all of the passages you have been studying easily? I couldn't figure it out. Is there a more detailed document on using the webiste?

You'd be looking to sort by "last opened" with the arrow pointing down (descending) meaning the ones you last looked at are on top.

How many passages do you try to study at the same time? I'm curious as to whether people are doing one at a time or switching between many?

A ton of the Vietnamese words were marked as ignored, I've reset them so now they'll be treated like words. This should be fixed but if this shows up again on new passages just comment here, if it were to show up I'd expect it to start with just the odd word here and there now though. (New words to the system)

It is OpLingo not OpLang but it's a bit worrying that people are mapping it onto OpLang.

oplingo is quite catchy IMO especially if you do it with an Italian accent.

I've been playing with google tts(https://cloud.google.com/text-to-speech)

*Apparantly* in the US it is oh-pah-lingo

Italian is o-pling-o

Britain is op-lingo which is the intentionally name for it overpowered lingo/operation lingo there's also an "olingo" animal that can be the logo.

It refreshes from the server after a vote so if someone else voted it may look like you described. I checked to make sure there are no users with more than one vote. I will check again before it closes.

Middlemen are banks doing the fx conversion, paypal/stripe(credit card provider) also have a spread on the conversion too so you would never get spot price...

Using PayPal should fix your problem with fees as they will take the funds from your local currency and convert it within their platform if your bank/credit card have prohibitive fees.

I'm from the UK BTW, a recent PayPal test of the system (reading tool subscription) looks like the below for me:

Currency conversion

Conversion from: £5.71 GBP

Conversion to: $6.99 USD

Exchange rate: 1.223931841302137

sourced from a uk bank account without any bank fees

a previous card test:

Card Payment To Language Tools Llc,5.00 Usd, Rate 0,76/£ On Xx Xx 2020 (International Use) 3.25 GBP also without any bank fees.

Thinking about it now and looking at the above it looks like Stripe is doing what PayPal does and does the conversion into local currency and charges that.

If you don't mind; could you please test this through booking a lesson if you're charged excess fees through your bank I'll contribute that amount to your account so you won't lose anything. It would be good to understand this properly so we can update the messaging. No worries if you're still a bit hesitant.

It has come up in the past, it's simply too much work to be worth while with the current userbase size. We'd still have to factor in the exchange rate in the prices because a FX conversion would still need to happen(and there are middlemen that still need to make money). We'd also need to add to that spread slightly to cover the risk of fluctuations however it wouldn't be transparent to end users as it currently is.

It's pretty conventional to work only in USD for sites such as these that offer other users services.

There is a button that can clear it under the cog / gear icon on the reading tool.

It should be easier to add your translation now, every time you click a word or select a phrase there is a textbox to type it in. You also have the little icon to select the dictionary to lookup the word in.

If you use chrome you can use a browser extension called 'stylish' . I made a very quick and hacky dark mode override here:

https://userstyles.org/styles/182540/language-tools-dark-mode

Feel free to use it as the base or I'll pick it up again later, there's a beige mod someone else has made for the reading tool there too.

It goes without saying that none of these are going to be officially supported. I don't mind maintaining / enhancing the dark mode one if people want to use it though.

It should just start magically showing up after you use the reading tool again. It won't display when there isn't a value calculated and the calculation is dependant on using a bookmark or clicking 'i've read this passage' on the ones you've read.

It would be too dangerous as it is. It is just JavaScript ran on the servers to compute the urls so it could easily be abused. We can add them quickly however.

It's on the list of things to do, I think in general RTL languages aren't fully supported at the moment as we have no one in-house that really knows about them.

Have you tried highlighting the lines as phrases? It may help for now whilst we investigate this.

Hi all,

Please list any punctuation or anything that is handled like a word look up here when it shouldn't be.

things like $10,00, $10.00, ?,‘, etc. Please paste them into this list rather than trying to replicate them as sometimes they may look the same but are actually slightly different.

Please also mention the language :-)

The editor we're using for desktops/laptops doesn't typically work on the phones. It ends up behaving differently based on what software keyboard you have installed. The default samsung keyboard would work but the google, swiftkey, etc would not on android so we took the decision to reduce the functionality on mobiles in this case. We intend to revisit this in the future though.

Maybe we can fix what ever is making you want to see the desktop site version on the phone if it isn't to do with the editor itself.

Could you please describe the issues you have with the normal mobile view?

I've put in an order.

Please make the screencast, there shouldn't be another input field below the 'amount' field on the Proposal Declined Information Modal.

The box with the course title in it is a big button. If the colour matches the text inputs it isn't selected and clicking or tapping it is meant to turn it blue.

I guess this isn't obvious when you only have one course and it's optional.
